Rear Wiper intermittently sticks
1993 Cherokee XJ Sport
4.0 Liter (straight six) motor
4wd with Command-Trac
5 speed Manual with AX15 transmission
My rear Window Wiper has an odd pattern when its turned on. It will do half of initial sweep, stop, and then after 2-3 seconds will continue sweep and return.
Prior behavior was to perform 1 sweep + return about every 3-5 seconds.
When you use the Wash rocker position, it works normally ( squirts fluid, does 2 to 3 sweeps and then stops).
Looking at the wiring diagram, I don't see anything that controls the timing pattern when in normal wipe mode
I've swapped the motor, and see the same issue.
Does anyone have ideas of how to troubleshoot this further?

this does sound like a lousy connection in the rear hatch or the switch is going bad, you could try and move the hatch while the rear wiper is in the On position see if it turns on or the switch somewhat wiggle it.

Mine does this. I've replaced the motor several times and a new one will work for a couple of years then start the intermittent thing again. You can take the motor apart and clean the internal contacts (and grease the gears) which will allow it to 'park' properly - i.e. return to it's starting position, but it will only last a while and start doing it again. Poor design.

Over time grease gets thick and almost glue like. Im getting ready to disect mine and regrease gotta do some research on grease types that this will not happen too over time.
