Is it the actual gas pedal that sticks or does it just stay throttled up? Try cleaning out your throttle body sometimes that will make the throttle plate get stuck open if it gets to gunked up in there. If it's the pedal itself try following your throttle cable and check it at the firewall. In my old cherokee the grommet where my throttle cable went through the firewall had gotten worn down so my throttle cable was rubbing metal on metal causing it to fray and it would start to stick. If its not that then maybe you need to check the bolts and linkage in the pedal itself for any type of binding and throw some lube on it. Good luck man.

Sounds like a toyota, not a jeep. 4x4utah gives some good advice. start at the tb and work back. Not sure on the pre 97's, does it have a tps sensor? When my tps went the poor girl would idle herself down the road at 35mph. So that could be a cause if so equipped. It does sound as though the throttle plate is sticking, though it would be easier to know if I were looking at it, ya know?
