NP242 transfer case sticks in 4wd
I have a 1999 jeep cherokee limited and I have drove it all winter going in and out of 4wd with out a problem. I have taken it down some trails lately and it will get stuck in part time and I will have to leave it off with the power on to get it out of 4wd. I also noticed some thing new now, when I go to engage into part time it won't even show the part time light that lights up and indicates that it's in 4wd it also does the same thing for 4low, but trust me its in 4low. I'm not to sure what it can be, I have 195,000 on the vehicale so I am thinking maybe my t-case has had it or could it be something else that can be easly fixed in the case? If i need to get a new t-case which would be better NP231 or the NP242 with full time?

Update: I found a used NP242 on craigslist for $120 with 89,000 miles on it. I might go for that one and just swap, i just never did that sort of thing.

try checking the linkage and drive in reverse and see if it pops back to 2wd. my 91xj did the same thing but my linkage was all missed up cause the bushings where bad.
