Default Rear Studs Shorter

I noticed tonight while installing some wheel spacers that the rear wheel studs are quite a bit shorter than the fronts? Anyone noticed this or know why?

Stock axles? The studs on one of them could have been changed. If you're running wheel spacers you should probably replace those short ones with longer studs.

Yea its an 8.25 stock as anything. I got plenty of turns on the studs in my opinion, but wondered why the rears have shorter studs.

Not sure, but my '99 is the same way, and if I recall correctly so were both of my '89s.

Yea I pulled them up on Rock Auto and it seems there are two types on the XJ - Front and Rear. I snapped some photos of my spacers. Uploading now.

Here they are.
I put a deep well socket up to it to show some comparison.

I know that last picture looks bad but I got 8 full turns on each nut.
Also keep in mind its a tapered nut like a lug nut so the threads start quite a bit father down.

Thoughts...

I just ran around town and over some bumps etc.. to try and knock them loose. 20 miles or so.
Recheck still all dead on 90lbs torque.

I'm not sure if a Dana 35 stud will work with your 8.25 but the zj 35 with disc breaks have longer studs.

You can use the front studs on the rear.

I am going to swap my rears brakes to ZJ disc eventually, I will for now - run Front Studs next time I need a project.
Thanks All.
