So I have my lift all the way done... Except the rear shock bolts. Are the nuts on the inside of the shock tower welded to the mounts or are they loose? I can't get them out because of the rust and I am debating whether or not to cut the heads off and bang them out if I can... Let me know if this is a bad idea or go for it. Thanks in advance!!!

Mine were welded in. All 4 bolts broke for me then I used a air chisel with a pointed tip to knock them out. Dropped a bolt down through the top.

Awesome find.

All mine came out like butter. The head on one of them was a size smaller than the rest. I love finding gifts from previous owners!

Just put enough force on them that they snap then knock the welded nut out and replace with a new bolt

Those look pretty good. I wonder how they hold up? I'll have to keep them in mind when I get around to all the work I have planned.

If you search you can find tons of info on this but the general consensus is once the bolt snaps off break the nut off inside the bracket and drop in a bolt from the top side. It takes a little manuvering to get the bolts in there but it can be done.

Thanks y'all... The rust is so bad in there I can't see what is really going on so this was a huge help! Sorry for now using the search function but it doesn't work so well on my phone. I'll let y'all know how it goes... Thanks again!

I cut mine off, drilled them out and taped them for a new bolt. I got new harden drill bits and that made it so much easyer

I had to torch mine out! The drill bits were a bit old Had to weld on a new perch too. getting bolts in on the left side was a bit daunting! Make sure you have a magnet on a stick it helps! But try an tap them before you torch! I have no carpet on mine so torching wasn't an issue although there was still quite the smoke
Show because of the black stuff!

My favorite bits are the milwaukee cobalt steel bits they are a bit expensive but they work soooo good and fast, make sure you buy some cutting oil too so you bits last longer! You can get them at home depot. I've tried a lot of different brands but those ones I found worked best and lasted the longest.

I removed the shocks after bustin', cussin' and discusting with the poor set up from the factory.
Used a 5/16 drill bit from the bottom of jeep and drilled thru the rear deck at the center of the upper shock mount on both sides.
Removed the carpet from inside the rear of Jeep and using a 3 inch hole saw, I opened everything up so I could drop some new stainless bolts in from the top.

Wiped it all down with acetone and primed-painted from top and bottom.
Sealed the 3 inch pieces I removed with silicone.

That was several years ago and I have had no problems with water or rust and next time I replace my shocks i won't have any hassles when working with the upper shock tower bolts.

That's a lot of extra work! I definitely would recommend drilling it out and if you don't wanna tap dat! Fish a blot through with a magnet on a stick. And who wants to drill big holes in the back!
