I cut and folded my rear quarter on the passenger side the other day. I will try to take more photos of the process on the drivers side this weekend. I cut the lower portion of the rear quarter on the inner and outer panel, then folded the inner panel up flat and then the outer panel up flat. I spot welded the two panels together and sealed the seam on the inside and out. I finished it off with a little fresh paint.

Has anybody on here done this on a newer XJ with the factory towing package? I am trying to figure out the cleanest way to route my trailer hitch wiring, as it used to go through the quarter panel in between the inner and outer panel. I am thinking about cutting a hole in the outer panel and using the factory grommet to seal it.

I finished the drivers side today. In the first picture you can see how the outer quarter panel is folded up. in the second picture I highlighted the area I cut out on the back. You have to cut out a similar section on the front. I also cut the inner and outer quarter panels at the lower body line prior to folding.

In this photo you can see the inner quarter is already folded up. The factory trailer hitch wiring harness was in my way and had to be rerouted as well.

The next photos show where I welded the outer quarter panel to the inner fender well and the rear body panel.

The final photo is where I relocated the factory trailer hitch wire harness to.

The end result is a lot of extra ground clearance behind the rear tires.......it looks cool too.

I will be doing a wrap around bumper and an exo cage next. It may be a few months before I have the time and money to do that. By the way I think it looks good. I will finish by covering the area with spray on bed liner to cover up the black gloss paint......it was all I had at the time.
