How is this job coming? I seriously hope you did not remove the axle to get the pan out. That inspection plate needs to come off for sure and the front axle obviously has to be hanging. You could always remove the 4 nuts at the trans mount and jack up the rear of the motor and trans to clear the axle or even unbolt the shocks to allow for more hanging of the axle. I have never seen one that just would not clear the axle. Exhaust, yes, but never axle problems. Hope its working out for you sir.

Might as well lift it while you got the axel off!! ha
When i did mine it was hard to get the pan out too. and i have a 5 inch lift. also an 89. if you really dont want to do any hard work by taking axels off and such. do try what he said about taking the tranny bolts off and lifting the tranny up to get it out. if all else fails, try to get it at a good angle to get a socket up there. its only 2 bolts man. and the seals will come out easy. you might have to whoop on the crank race after you take the bolts out is all..
Also, not doubting you, but when my rear main went out. it leaked from in between the inspection plate that you said was bent and the tranny/ engine. did you clean yours off or where is it actually leaking from? if you follow through with it. its pretty easy. patients man

Check to make sure the tranny lines aren't causing the pan to hangup. They run very close to the passenger side of the pan. Move them out of the way as you manuver the pan out. Did my rear main last week. If you get stuck let me know maybe I can help. As far as getting the pan out...mine has a lift so it came out pretty easily. Kept all 4 wheels on the ground.

It will come out without dropping the axle, but you may fight it to get it in and out. Starter does not need to be renoved. Just keep messing with it, it will go

And it's getting caught in between that and the axle. I removed some bolts trying to give it more room and unbolted the exhaust manifold yet it still will not come out!

Finally got it out!!! I am so happy right now! After about a week of the oil pan just hanging under my jeep (no time to work on it) I got a free weekend to work on it. I took most every thing off the axle and never fully took it out, once I had almost all
The bolts off I turned the oil pan to the left and it pretty much fell out! Spent most of the day (AGAIN) trying to get it out. Had a few hours so cleaned the pan spotless and got a lil of the oil junk off from under. Went and bought the new seals today and about 10 sockets. Oh and no I'm not sure it is even coming from the rear main. Hope it is... Lol things are finally starting to look up! Had me depressed when a spent a whole weened on it and made no progress. Ha
