Rear main emergency

Default Rear main emergency




Yo guys I need some help I’m in the midst of doing the rear main on my Jeep and my bearing cap doesn’t have the cut outs for the ears of the lower seal is this abnormal to have a bearing cap that looks like this?!?!

What I can find is that the seal you have is for a older 4.0L . It looks like you need the newer 4.0L , but I see that maybe the 2000 could have ether one because sometimes they show both for the 2000 .

Rock auto shows a felpro BS 40183 for an 01 that has no ears they are usually pretty accurate for part numbers

Got in in. Pulled an all nighter so had to wait for parts store to open to buy the correct earless seal. They should really specify this in the Haynes manual. Also every video I watched has the seal with the ears. AND the reason it was leaking in the first place is because it had the seal with the ears and the last guy just sent her on there and said “good enough” from what I can tell.

The Haynes manual is a mix of old and new. Some images may not be correct for everyone, and some of the information given is incorrect. Some of it may be missing. I dont use Haynes much. The factory manuals are way better.
