Default Rear gets loose when hitting bumps

Wife just called on her way to work (rural Postal Carrier). Stated the Cherokee is unstable on rough roads where the rear wants to slide around like a pickup. Doesn't matter is it is in Fulltime or Part-time 4wd. Tires are Winterforce 2s at 38psi

Is it just due to the truck, being light, possible suspension issue I do not see....?

Do not remember any of this last winter when we picked it up and it was running a set of 1/2 worn Winter Force tires at that time.

Jeep is getting frustrating since it is in one of those what failed now stages the last month. LOL (Upper radiator hose, water pump, starter, battery...…)

Oh these new winterforce tires came on a parts jeep we bought, had 250mi on them before they hit a tree, rear rim has a slight wobble so have to replace that rim.

Anything with a solid rear axle is likely to lose rear-end grip when cornering on a bumpy surface since it's got all that unsprung mass to contend with. Has it gotten worse recently? How are the shocks?

38 psi is to high for a light weight XJ, try 28 or 30. You shocks also might be worn out.

^^ That was going to be my first suggestion... pretty high psi for those kinds of roads worn shocks or not.

38 psi way to high. Stock size tires take no more then 35 psi. From there the bigger the tire the lower the psi put into them. For 31" tires i run 28 in the front and 26 in the rear

Thanks that was my first thought was the Air pressure in the tires, Was swapping winter sets onto 3 vehicles and wasn't thinking when I got to the Jeep. Just set the same pressure on the Jeep. Will drop the pressure when I see her again, she added a couple hundred lbs in Bags of salt they had at work and said it is better. I forget just how light these Jeeps are.

All in all, even with the recent upkeep, I still like the Jeep and it is easy to work on! My wife has also commented that she loves this Jeep so if/when she changes careers once school is done, we will probably sell this RHD and buy a nice LHD from down south.

Well when you do decide to sell it make sure you post it up here. Been really thinking about building a RHD jeep for 4 wheeling. Never seen a built up RHD jeep in my part of the country and have always thought it would be cool to do

Just remember with the coolness factor with a RHD in the US....parts for them cost more when you get into steering, suspension, etc...as they are harder to come by than say when I lived in Australia where nearly everything is RHD.
