rear end swap..possible??
I have a 00 xj with a c8.25 rear end. My buddy has a 99 Ford exploder with what he said was a d2 limited slip with 4.10 gears and has a 3,200 lb capacity. Would this be 1. Possible with the limited slip and 2. Would it be worth it or am I better off with my c8.25?? Just lookin for something to do for cheap and fun that's worth but thought I would see of it was any better then what I have now. I'd be getting the whole rear end for free so that's y I wanted to know. If its not worth the time and effort let me know and ill keep feeling around for what I really want (D44).

That would be an 8.8. They are a very desirable rear end swap, arguably stronger than the d44 (at least as strong, if you don't think stronger). However, there is more work involved than swapping in a d44 out of an XJ. You will have to cut off and relocate the spring pads and shock mounts, and there is some tinkering involved in getting the emergency brake hooked up.

It's certainly possible, but unless you can do the work yourself, it will hardly be free. Don't forget about the gearing. I assume you would also change the gearing in your front differential to match, right?

Don't forget the adapter/yoke needed to make the Jeep driveshaft mate up to pinion on the Ford axle.

When I swapped mine, I just got a kit from knowwhere2jeep.com they have a decent kit with parking brake cables, mounts and perches. Also they have an option for an inexpensive solid diff cover and crown braided brake lines to sweeten the deal.. Be sure to call them when ordering, to let them know of your application if you go this route. Heres a pic of my swap.
