I have a 94 and lost my reverse lights a while back. I started having intermittent no start issues a few months ago that I thought I fixed just by cleaning battery contacts. But, starting yesterday, I cannot get it to crank at all now. I tried everything. Cleaned all contacts, tested starter(it's only 3 weeks old), cleaned and jiggled about every wire I could find and checked all the fuses. I am glad I found this. I will check this out when I get the chance. For now, I am starting it by jumping the small wire coming from the starter to the battery with the key in the on position. I won't hurt anything by doing this for a while will I?

This was extremely easy to do and only took about an hour. Fixed by back-up lights and no-start issue! Much much better than a couple hundred dollars for a new one. The hardest part was cutting the wire ties and I'd have to do that for a new one anyway.

Ok, so about 6 or so months ago i rebuilt my NSS. About 3 weeks ago it started acting up again.
I tried readjusting it, and that didnt do squat. It got so bad that, Every morning, I would sit in my garage for about 5-10 minutes and jiggle the shifter till i found the "sweet spot" otherwise my jeep wouldnt start. So tonight i decided i would open the NSS back up, just to find that all of the grease i put in last time, had turned to gel and oxidized the contacts.
So to anyone who stumbles across this, i hope this helps!
DON'T BUY THE LITTLE PACKET OF GREASE AT THE COUNTER!!!
spend the extra couple bucks and get the permatex stuff! i just re-rebuilt it tonight so lets see how its doing in a few months.
Good Luck!
i will try to get some pix up. just trying to resize??? haha

here are some pics to show what i was dealing with.. look at the contacts, they had hardened dielectric grease on them. That is what was preventing the connection!
