The 1999 looks quite a lot different behind the trim cover than my 1996!

Thank you for posting the picture and diagrams CCKen they are great reference items.

Yes thank you CCKen, that is exactly what I was hoping someone would chime in with. Sig Al, let us know the end result!

No doubt the '96 would look different, starting in '97 the elctrical systems started to develop to what is seen in the '98 and up. There are differences in the '97 to the '98, and a few differences in the '98 to the '99, but not many. Starting in '00 the German engineers got their fingers in the works (after the Daimler take over) and changed (refined? LOL) a few systems.

I am happy to report I fixed the problem. What a mess!! Two of the harnesses were completely corroded. A few wires were broken off and a bunch more broke when I grabbed the harness. Also, both grounds near by didn't look to great so I cleaned them up real good. It took a few hours to clean up the wires and get everything soldered up. I don't realize but the third brake light wasn't working either. That has due to the other harness. Thanks to all you guys for the help. The pics and wiring diagrams sure helped.

Good work.

Where were the cobbled up harnesses located?

They appear to be C322 and C326 right behind the plastic trim.

I have the same problem on my 01 XJ. Will it be the same problem?
