thanks guys. The brakes are already on. I can't remember which one i put where, didn't think of it until reading a different post on here that sparked my memory. I should probably pull drums off and check. What is the failure mode if they are not put on in the right orientation? self adjuster not work?

After thinking about it you cannot put them on wrong, the way the shoes are made it makes it impossible, the top is rounded, and the bottom is notched where the adjuster sits. The adjuster will not hook up either if backwards.

It was a question on the ASE test, an old school guy told me to remember it by this, in a race, if your not in front, your trailing. Corny I know, but it helps me remember.

the drum brakes are self energizing..(servo action) the shoe towards the front (primary) is the small one, due to the fact it has less of the work load...the rear (secondary) is the long one...does most of the work in the drum system......
