Default Rear axle needs repair! What rear axle Do I Have?

I have a '91 2 door Cherokee.
It has the 4.0L HO engine with an Automatic Overdrive Trans.
The vehicle has around 275,000 miles on it.

From what the previous owner relayed to me was the engine/trans was replaced with another one and had 80K miles on it, not too long before he aquired the vehicle.

The rear axle on the passenger side has a lot of play in the outer axle bearing.
From the shape of the rear cover (from your chart) it appears to be a Dana 35.
Information stamped on the rear cover reads:

Dana
43225
143 0
REV-B
08-29-88

The previous owner also told me he bought the Cherokee from someone who had more than one Jeep in his yard.

Is this an axle that came in a '91?
Did someone swap out an axle when they swapped out the engine/trans?
If a shop was to do repair work to my cherokee, what year cherokee would they look under to get replacement parts/axle maybe?

I had already looked at the pics in the sticky post of this sectionbefore I posted.
But, thank you for another picture.

Does anyone have any answers to my original questions?

Could be a 35. Yes it could be original.

If this is the case, and it were mine, I would get a complete 8.25 from a junkyard and swap it in as a 35 isn't worth spending money on.

^x2, it'd be an upgrade & probably cheaper to grab an 8.25 (29 spline) from a pick & pull JY, than having someone work on your D35. Only additional parts you'll need would be new U bolts, U bolt plates & some other miscellaneous parts. 8.25 at a JY around me go for about $100

Good luck
