I got this 89 cherokee and don't know the difference of it being an XJ or regular. I know it is Limited edition, but not sure how that helps for buying parts...

Is there a way to tell if it's an XJ or what it's specific title is?

 

XJ is just the letter designation for a Cherokee (84-01). As well as there name, Jeeps also have a letter designation, XJ for Cherokees, SJ for the older full-size Cherokees, ZJ WJ WK WK2 for the Grand Cherokees, YJ TJ JK for Wranglers, etc.

 

XJ is just the body code, like the old Chrysler E bodies were the Cuda and Challenger, B bodies were the Charger and Roadrunner, A bodies were the Dart and Valliant, and so on.

 

Yes its an XJ! All unibody cherokees in 1989 were XJ cherokees because the Grand Cherokee had not been introduced yet, it would be a ZJ.

 

I always feel enlightened when I come on this site...

 

and remember there are no stupid or dumb questions just stupid answers like "just take your thermostat out if your xj has an over heating problem, thats what i do" thats a stupid answer lol if anyone wants to argue about it bring it on pm me or leave me a comment
