Default A real Green Horn Question....

I'm sure this is going to seem a real dumb question to some of you guys, i want to lift my XJ by a few inches, nothing crazy and i dont do any mad off-roading (yet)...I use my XJ as my DD and i go hunting quite a bit here in Ireland, so its more for the ground clearance to go down less than nice roads and pathways....If i was to get something like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Cherokee-XJ-3-Lift-Kit-w-4-Performance-Shocks_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5636954370QQitem Z370282939248QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fA ccessories

is it a case of bolt right on there? Do i need to change the set up in any way and is there any other part i would need? (apart from the shock boots)

XJ's arent very common here, so all the off-road guys aren't much help here, they all use defenders....but i like my XJ, havn't (touch wood) got stuck yet....

oh and another thing, my XJ is the 1999 2.5TD Sport, and my heater/blower is bad, im mean real bad....i clear my windsrceen faster by blowing on it! Is this a problem on all XJ or just the diesels?

Any help will be greatly appriciated guys n gals........

forgot to mention, it doesn't have A/C..

it is bigger tires that will get the axles higher for better ground clearance....

Hi mac, the kit you linked is crap. No way those rear add a leafs will give 3in of lift, maybe the first two days but after they will sag like a busted mexican truck.
You have to look for a 2in budget boost kit with a full length add a leaf or shackles, or a complete rough country 3 inch lift.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/84-01...item20af5936a2

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/84-02...item5885ec9ac4

It is a bolt on and you don't need new shocks with less than 3 inch of lift.

The blower is standard equipment on both gasoline and diesels, check if it has a clogged intake filter under the hood cowl. The 2.5 VM diesel does not exist in the USA but it is very diffused in europe.

Welcome to the forum.

Talking Hey man

I agree with Fantic.

By the way mad jealous your in Ireland i have wanted to go there my whole life.

In my opinion I would get a 2.5 to 3" lift with 31" tires it will pretty much put you over anything you need to get over with regards to not nice roads. as long as your not extreme rock crawling or anything you will be alright.

EDIT: I dont know exactly where yours is but you need to find your heater core disconnect entry and exit tubes and run water through one side to the other switching sides till it comes out clear. I will check my sheets but you might also have a switch under the passenger side that move back and forth try moving that.

i agree that first kit you posted brings the suck, one of the three that were posted will be better the 100 budget boost posted and some trimmed fenders will give you some good ground clearance

here is a write up on the rear
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/cu...-fenders-1718/

the front you can just trim about an inch off of with no problem

welcome to the forum, and good luck on the heat. sounds like your having heater core issues to me. Does your heat blow warm out of any of the vents or is it all cold?

btw post some pics of your jeep up.

Hijacker! OP, your heat issue, doesnt sound like vac lines to me, as when vac lines go bad default is defrost, so your windshield should be clear all the time. I would say its more like a bad blower motor/bearing

btw post some pics of your jeep up.

its pretty much cold all the time, it heats up a very small amount if i drive the poo outa it, rev high through all the gears and that sort of stuff....its the same temp through all the vents...I know of another guy close to me that has a 2000 Xj, (not a sport though), his heater is the same, very poor...il get some pic's up when i get a chance, have a few on my laptop somewhere...
On another note, my temp gauge in the Jeep is marked, 40-90-125 ( not sure if the petrol (gas) models are marked that way, with interval markings between, but it rarly passes the second mark after 40....i don't think it matters but just incase....thanks for the help and the welcomes so far guys...I havnt made many changes to the stock Jeep, just tires and some rooflights. It is a 'commerical' as we call them, LWB with two seats, so i put windows in the rear in place of the panels, couldnt see outa it!

Im getting side bars and an 'A-Bar' made up for Bubba at the minute...
