The rattling on mine at idle or while coasting is the heat shield next to the fuel tank. Haven't gotten under there to tighten the bolts yet.

Well, changed the fluid in the diffs and looked for a possbile rattle from the exhaust. If I shake it pretty hard I can get it to tap, but I dont think thats my issue. Ill be replacing the entire system from the cat back soon, so we'll see though.

I finally found out that my ZJ's exhaust was tapping on the gas tank retaining strap at certain times. It was aggravating the snot out of me. Had it adjusted and no more noise.

Wow...changed the fluid in the transfer case today and when I pulled the plug, not even a half qt of fluid comes out. I filled her back up with ATF+3 and instantly the rattle is much quieter, but still there. Now Im really worried...haha...essh.

You need to either keep an eye on your leaks or do better maintenance. IMO
I'd find the source of the leak.

Well the out-put shaft seal is easy to replace. The pinion seals are more labor intensive though. Read up before you attempt them if you've never done them before. JMO

All Jeeps must have this TC rattle, mine does the same thing. I notice mainly at idle, just a nudge down or up will stop it untill it starts again. I would have thought someone on this forum would come up with a permanent solution to this offender.

Is it lifted, mine started the same thing after the 3.5" lift, I bought an AA SYE to hopefully take care of it.
