Default Random Electrical Connection

I have a '89 Cherokee 4.0 with 5-speed and no A/C that I picked up for my sister-in-law last week for $700. I have been poking around the engine and came across the electrical connector below. Can anyone tell my what it's supposed to attach too?

It's coming out of the harness on the firewall on the passenger side of the Jeep. The wire is black and only about four-inches long. It has factory style female electrical connector with a single prong in it.

Thanks.

Can't place it. But know this: Jeep made ONE harness for each year Jeep. They had every connector a Jeep could use regardless of how it was equipped. Doesn't have that option? The connector's still there.

If I'm not mistaken that's the connector for the under hood light

I have same thing, I just put electrical tape over it and sealed it up

been that way since I drove it off dealer lot in 1990.

Could be the underhood light as mentioned. The connectors were designed so that they couldn't short out if unused.

Mine connects to another thin black wire, follows a vacuum line for a while, then looks like it goes into the cowl.
Pics tomorrow if you want.
