Random dying
95 jeep cherokee sport with automatic transmission. The issue I am having is I the engine randomly dies out after driving for a bit. No real set time or distance sometimes happens after 2-3 miles other time after 60-70 miles. The engine completely dies and I lose power brake and steering. Wont start up again right away and will start again and repeat the process sometime after 10 minutes other times overnight. Right before it dies I can hear a loud clicking noise like a relay is turning on and off. I am guessing something is trigger the ASD but not sure where to begin troubleshooting. Any help will be appreciated.

Cps more than likely that's the first thing to look at unplug it and plug it back in sometimes that works if not replace it with a mopar one from the dealer.

I don't think the key trick works on 95 but I may be mistaken. Just take it to a local parts store they do it for free. Make sure you write down the actual code number and not the description.

You can pull codes yourself with a 95. Here's how. The crankshaft position sensor will very often NOT set a code when it fails. More often than not, it doesn't set a code.
One of the first things I'd try is to swap the ASD relay in the power distribution center with a non-critical relay and see if that resolves it. Worth a shot. If that doesn't help, the primary suspect is the crank sensor.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Retrieving OBD codes on the Jeep Cherokee (XJ)
OBD1 Models: 1991-1995
1) Start engine (if possible). Move transmission shift lever
through all positions, ending in Park. Turn A/C switch on and then off
(if equipped).
2) Turn engine off. Without starting engine again, turn
ignition on, off, on, off and on within 5 seconds. Record 2-digit
fault codes as displayed by flashing MIL.
3) For example, fault code 23 is displayed as flash, flash,
4-second pause, flash, flash, flash. After a slightly longer pause,
other codes stored are displayed in numerical order. When MIL begins
to flash fault codes, it cannot be stopped. Start over if count is
lost.
NOTE: A "5-5" will always occur to signal the end of the sequence. Some will flash the "1-2" code indicating a recent battery disconnect even if you haven't done it. Ignore these two codes, and mark down all others.
