Default Radiator question

Okay,

So my 99 Jeep's temp gauge will show that my jeep is running hot then the gauge will go back down and then fluctuate back and forth. I will pull over and it's not hot. My speed gauge does the same thing. It will go from the actual mileage to 0...well last week the gauge was reading that it was hot. I pulled over and it was. Waited for 30 minutes and added some antifreeze. Got home no problem (I was less than 3 miles from my house). So yesterday I drove it approx 10 miles after it sat all weekend, it started to read hot. Got it to my oil changing place and had them change my oil and asked them to check my radiator for any leaks. They told me they did not see any leaks and just said it was low. I drove another 5 miles no problem. Parked it and checked an hour later to see if any of the antifreeze had leaked out. I saw a what was probably 4 in in diameter. When I went to drive it home yesterday it was fine. I drove under 40 miles an hour and it started to read hot 10 miles down the road. When I parked it. I heard the steaming noise and saw it leaking some but not allot. I popped the hood and did not notice a split in the hose on the top. I parked it up against the curb and whatever was leaking was hitting the curb. Does this sound consistent with a leaky radiator? How hard is it to replace it yourself? I priced the radiator at 100.00. Is that a fair price for a new radiator?

Thanks.

Were you able to see exactly where it was leaking from? Yes, radiators can leak when they get old and go bad. 100 isn't bad for a new one but i'd suggest, if you need a new radiator, go onto radiatorbarn.com and pick up a 3 core. They'll be around 200 and worth the extra money

Get the system pressure checked. That'll tell you if you have a leak.

Your paragraph is pretty tough to read, though. And you have some missing words.

Maybe its just the hose,100 is a fair price for a radiator.I just replaced mine with one from AutoZone for 109.00.I thought about a 3 row aftermarket one but if I have any problems with the oem one I can just run down the street and get another one.Or if I bump a tree on the trail I can return it. Be sure to get a new cap and t-stat also. Its a easy install if you have to replace it.

If you damaged your radiator with a tree you didn't 'bump' anything...

Your right with my bumper its gonna have be a big bump, maybe poking the radiator with a stick or log would be a better example.Point is if I get a hole in it from a bump ,poke,Hi lift,Ninja throwing star or bullets its going back to Autozone

Default Radiator

So I'm here at good year since its 2 miles from my house to get it diagnosed. Feeling a little vulnerable....crossing my fingers. Btw I havent been driving it for about a month. I noticed a couple of days after parking it I lost a considerable amount of antifreeze. Lets hope they don't rake me over the coals!
