Angry Radiator Hose, Overflow

I have a 90 cherokee with the closed cooling system,, The bottom hose off the reservoir ripped and need to find one, or atleast a good fit, the parts stores do not carry them....

That one is not as easy as it sounds. The nipple on the bottom of the bottle is 11/16, plus it's "barb". It might not be possible to fit the 5/8 hose on it. Then right there it takes a 90* "L", to connect to the rigid tube. Hose may well kink.

You might go to a store that will let you look at the rack of hoses on the wall and see if there is something there you can cut a section from that fits.

I have a short, (3 inch) piece that fits the bottle and reduces to 5/8. It happens that the fittings used for 1/2 copper pipe, (like used for house plumbing), the OD of those fittings is about right to fit 5/8. So I have a 90 right on that short piece to aim it at the tube.

OK, it looks like I clamped on the pipe its-self. It would be better if I had soldered couplings on the pipe to get a larger OD. It's been like that as long as I can remember, (years), seems to work.

My experience has been that 3/4" hose replaces 11/16" nicely.

Great tip! I suppose that will clamp on the 5/8 OK. So the remaining question is the bend. It's a pretty tight spot. There's got to be something out there with a section that can fit there.

5/8" and 3/4" heater hose r the most common at parts stores. Ask for 11/16" hose at a parts store amd u'll probably get that deer in the headlights look from the guy at the counter. Whoever dreamed up 11/16" hose should have been fired a long time ago. 90* hose barbed bends r available at the parts stores.

I didn't use a caliper, was just "eying" one in the barn. Actually I'm going up there right now, I'll take the caliper!

OK, a fat 22mm, is actually a fat 7/8. Plus the "barb", (the larger ring near the end). Guess a guy could "take that to the bank". I had two there to measure. Since I've been leaving the expansion bottle 1/2 empty, (at least), they seem to be lasting longer with air in there to compress.

I'd bet 3/4 would fit with some heat and soap, and still clamp on the 5/8 tube. Just gotta find a piece with that 90* "L".
