The cap will leak once the rated pressure has been exceeded. So yes, it will release pressure and fluid to the recovery tank on an open system and puke all over the place on a closed system.

Hmm. Mine is definitely an open system. I have been through 3 or 4 radiator caps recently. Each one doesn't seem to seal on the top. This has happened with the 3 radiators that I've had. What am I doing wrong I wonder. Any ideas? While it's leaking I can push on the cap to stop it from leaking. I'm tempted to just use duck tap and wrap it around the cap and the bottom part of the elbow

If it's leaking coolant when hot, it's definitely sucking in air when it cools and that's not good. Need to correct the problem asap. Duct tape ain't going to fix it.

Where exactly in it leaking from? Is it leaking from the over flow hose into the over flow bottle or around the cap itself? Also what is the pounds the cap you are using? It should be a 16lbs. cap.

BTW, when you bend the tabs just bend the a little at a time or you may have a hell of a time getting it back off.

Ok first of all it should be a 16 lbs cap. I had mine leak from around the cap once all I did was bend the tabs on the cap and it hasn't leaked after that. So, I would suggest is getting the right pressure cap and if it still has the same problem give the tabs a little bend and see if that helps. Let us know what happens and if it helps.

I've gone from normal mech fan to complete electric conversion and back to mech fan. Shouldn't have sold my Oem electric fan. My jeep over heats like a beast in the summer. Still haven't figured that one out yet either. But the leaky issue obviously needs to be addressed first. Before anyone mentions it. I know I need a shroud.
