Alright here's the issue, I can't keep my Jeep cool here in Phoenix. So I'm going to swap it over to the open system that the 2nd generation 4LTRs ran plus change everything that has anything to do with cooling minus the heater core. My question is does any know approximately how much tranny fluid I will loose to the old rad. Thank you for any info.
what have you replaced on the cooling system? has it been flushed? .. I flushed my cooling system, replaced thermostat and fans are both good. was informed it may be clogged radiator and water is flowing through bypass system in rad..
it was also suggested to install 3 core rad steel vs the stock 1 core plastic

They dont hold a great deal... just put back together.. drive and check level... maybe 1 pint...
If you really want to help the over heating... get a new rad.. and aftermarket trans cooler... 35+ bucks... and dont use the one in the rad at all...

What I meant to say was everything is getting done at once, Rad, Thermo, Hoses, Water Pump, flush, rather than do one then another. The body has 270,000 with the engine, trans, and t-case having 85,000 The hoses are showing deterioration and I don't know if the rad came out of the factory in that body (I had two go over 250K) with out knowing there ages there all going bye bye. I'm going to convert it to the newer open design. But back to the statement about the 3 core Rad, where can I get that, is it special order item, or would Napa sell it.

DO NOT BYPASS the tranny cooler in the radiator on a daily driver.
You will burn the tranny up. IT will not remove the heat when your sitting still or in stop and go traffic. Your tranny will cook.

Really? I was thinking of going to a seperate trans cooler. Wouldn't the fans still suck air through it?

radiatorbarn.com is a good place for radiators. they have the csf for just under 200. If you get a second tranny cooler run it through the radiator and the aux cooler. Double the cooling power.

I was always told 3-row for offroaders or haulers, 2 row for Daily Drivers. I myself just use the Jeep as a daily driver, and I am getting a 2 row to fix my cooling issues.

Are you saying a second Aux cooler, or are you saying second as in an aux cooler, because I already have one aux. PS, after ripping my cooling system apart I discovered my pump was still good but I already have a new one and this one is off so I will replace it. Second it looks like the prior owner was using AZ tap water and not distilled because it's plugged full of what appears to be calcium, the engine is clean metal from what I can see. Thaqnk you, for all the info, I'm use to New England where even if your cooling system isn't in top shape your still alright.
They are Great deal with!
