Default Quick! Temperature sending unit hole!

I got the alternate head apparently and I don't have the temp. sending unit and I need to plug that dang hole!
Any suggestions? It's a bear to reach back there and all of the bolts I'm trying do not work!
Is there a similar thread pitch somewhere in the engine bay that I can match or yank to plug the hole?

I need this running very soon. Thanks for anyhelp!

Why not just put a temp sender in? Any parts store has them.

Any parts store should also have pipe plugs to stick in there too

.......or a hardware store. It's a pipe thread, not a bolt thread.

Edit, do I look at the 1-prong temp sender or am I not even close? There's a lot to choose from. I'm betting this head is from a 1996 and I have a 1998. Something I must have done.

Wouldn't a sending unit be many times more expensive than a 50 cent pipe plug?

96s and 98s both use the 0630 head. and I believe my sender has 1 prong... I'll check in the morning.

Of course the unit would be more expensive, but without know the pitch of the pipe plug then I would be guessing.
I'll have to purchase a few plugs so I'm not making multiple trips. I think the 1/8th x 27 might be a good bet. Either way, I'll figure it out. THanks guys.

Just have the parts guy grab a sending unit off the shelf, then tell him you need a pipe plug with the same threads.

All u need to figure is the plug diameter......the threads will be Male National Pipe Thread (MNPT) specific to the diameter.

It ain't rocket science, is it? 1/8 NPT IIRC.

1/8" NPT. Get a brass plug from the hardware store, coat with PTFE paste, and install. Torque 1/3-turn past finger tight, check in 48 hours. Tighten in 1/6-turn incremenets.

Two things for people who may search this issue in the future.
1/8" NPT worked. Thanks to those who suggested it. I bought two types of brass pipe fittings just in case. I went with the hex head plug. The other option was a straight coupler with 1/8" male on both ends using a hex head cap.
The second thing is that for those who don't know, the threaded hole in the head sits at an angle. It angles away from the valve cover so you need be careful with threading whichever fitting you have into it.
