Installing lift shackles question
In my failed attempt to install some generic lift shackles (they were basically bars) I ran across something I didn't expect.
The bolt for the shackle goes through the mount then into a welded nut inside the body.
My question is...
Is that nut accessible, and if so, how?
Also when installing a aftermarket lift shackle do most people just reuse the original bolt, or how do they do it?
Thanks to everyone who helps me out with all my questions.

My Daytar 1 inch lift shackles came with new polyurethane bushings and I just used the OEM bolts and they work just fine. If you don't destroy your bolts getting them out or see any obvious defects with them don't waste the cash on buying new bolts. it isn't necessary.
Also, thse welded in anchornuts aren't accessible to my knowledge. I suppose you could cut your way into them. Or maybe you can get them by going in through the end of the unibody framerail.

It really depends on what you do when you talk about running a big tire stock. You can run a 30" tire. But it will rub everything if you try to take it off road. I don't recommend going over a 235/75/15 if your going to wheel it.
As far as cheap lift shackles go you can either order a set from rusty's, use MJ shackles out of a junkyard, or find somebody selling some used ones.

If you break that bolt then you will have to cut into the fram/unibody to try to fix it.
I will never install shackles on my xj since i'm sure that bolt will break in the fram and its a world of pain to fix.
