I am popping off my diff covers to change gear oil. I am not sure if I have LSD front or rear.

From build sheet:
DJKS Dana 30/181MM Front Axle DRAS Corporate 8.25 Rear Axle
DHNS Command-Trac Part Time 4WD System/DGSS 4-Speed Automatic AW4 Transmission

I can pop the covers, and since I am painting them and it can take up to 24 hours for my rtv bead to set - I could post pictures.

My question, which I wasn't quite sure after looking online, is -- Can I just use LSD additive in the front and rear?

I bought tranny fluid and T/C fluid, as well, but I'll do my homework there rather than ask stupid questions.

I need to change my diff fluid eventually but most bottles I've looked at say they already have the slip additive in it. Or well they say you don't need to add any slip if you have a lsd.

they both look open to me, but wtf do I know.. I'm going off the curved shape, versus more cylindrical shape. Any input? I'll just probably buy LSD fluid because I'm an idiot and want to be safe.

They look open to me, only the rears had trac lock iirc, if you don't see any clutch discs in there I wouldn't bother with the additive

I went lucas gear oil. I just like their products, was on sale, still $5 more/bottle than the cheap stuff. After buying my tranny/tc fluid, gear oil, and rotella for my next oil change, I'm out almost $150 on the day. oof. The jeep is my only rig and it takes good care of me, so I'm trying to repay the favor.

Thanks for the prompt responses. For someone that didn't work in dad's shop through my youth, this jeep is my mechanical learning process. I still don't know jack **** about a motor, drivetrain, etc. I figure maybe one day I'll try installing a locker. Then again, maybe not - ha.

I'm using RTV for the seal. Figure I'll do that in the morning, let it sit for a few hours while I make stuffing, then pop the diffs on around noon.

Again thanks. They said 75 or 80 would work, at O'reilly. I think I went 75-90 on the oil.

I wouldn't let the RTV dry completely. I use a thin coat on both surfaces of Permatex Ultra Black RTV. It doesn't require you to wait till it skims.

Regarding this, I usually just spread the rtv around evenly to get a thin even coating then put the cover on, I wait maybe an hour to put gear oil in and start driving again. Never had an issue.
