Quick question about tps
Details: 1996 Cherokee, 4.0 with Aw4
So I think the TPS is causing my transmission to get confused for the 3-4 shift. I was wondering what the voltage is supposed to be at the sensor?
It will shift correctly from 1-2 and 2-3. Its only the 3-4 shift and TC lockup that seems to be acting up. I'm not positive its the TPS so I will be checking the trans shift noids as well.
The problem: trans will hesitate before the 3 to 4 shift and on the highway the TC feels like it will not coast. It wants to engine brake, like if I was driving a manual trans and let off the gas.

Thanks. Your right. I think my problem lies in the transmission kick down cable. When I did my valve cover gasket over the weekend I think I might have loosened it up when pulling the cover off.

Im trying to diagnose this, and i have reading around and come to some conclusions. I am purchasing this vehicle, so i cant exactly run out and try to do certain things but from what i have experienced when im accelerationg, it would go through first and second gear, it would finally hold up into third til about 3k til 4k until i let off the gas, then it eases into next gear. I didnt try to see if it would shift on its own since i was only test driving it. I did a quick search and picked up a TPS sensor which i will be replacing this evening. I now believe it could be the kick back cable, TCU or sel packs. I just dont know which i should start with aside from the TPS is that doesnt fix it.

I will definitely be holding onto that. I am just a little confused about the cable adjusting. What exactly am i shooting for? Loosening it? Tightening it? Is it sticking? Hopefully this and the TPS will set this issue straight. This is whats keeping me from buying the jeep

Tightening it.
Locate the cable, near the throttle body there will be a black plastic piece with a grey push button located on the top and a plunger, push the plunger all the way in while holding down the grey button, release the grey button, then by hand open the throttle body to wide open and then it should be adjusted to the correct position.
