It's always been said to do it at 3000. Newer motors can handle longer oil change intervals. I used to do 3000, sometimes 2000, depending on how often i off roaded in dusty conditions. Now that my job is .6 miles from work, i do it every 6 months cuz it would take me years to hit 3000.

I will continue to change my oil 2-3000 miles in the old 87's but i have extended the commander that runs on synthetic to 6000 miles. Better engines, better oil, better filters you can go longer now.

Seven year old 4.0, yes EVERY 3000 miles!! Sooner if you wheel it much. Oil and filters are cheap compared to a rebuilt short block, IMHO!!

Yeah, just ask OKC. He knows how much as rebuilt 4.0 costs, not because he didn't change his oil though!! How's that thing running BTW??

And many other things but we still like you Kyle.

As to the oil thing every 3000 miles unless you have a new motor or rebuilt motor and use synthetic then you can extend to 5000 miles.

I change mine in the Lincoln every 5,000 miles, just for the simple fact that with today's advanced refining techniques, the oil doesn't break down and lose its viscosity nearly as quick. I've only changed the oil in the jeep once, but it probably won't see 3,000 miles in a year lol.

A lot of it depends on the types of roads you drive; if you live in a hot dusty environment you'll want to change it at least every 3,000 miles. If you live in a cooler climate and don't see a lot of dust, you should be safe at 5,000 miles, depending on how hard you dog your engine.

Yeah I know about it because the previous owner didn't change the oil for 2 yrs because they let it set...Should have drain it and poured some oil through it to lube things up before starting it..Plus the oil filter pickup tube was all sorts of gummed up.. So if anyone ever goes to buy a jeep that's been setting and you don't want to hose that motor always and I mean always drain that oil and run some through it before capping it...it'll pay off so everything is lubed up when you start it and not all gummy...

Thing is running solid as a rock...no leaks nothing..

Ya know all new car manuals say 7500 miles but you know as cheap as oil it I'll keep up the 3000 mark on all my cars...It's a hell of a lot cheaper then a new motor, top end rebuild or bottom end rebuild...

I change the oil in all my vehicles at 4 months because they usually don't see 3000 miles (in 4 months)and if they go to 33200 or 3300 (usually wifes Malibu) I don't worry to much.I used to change every 3 months but as the price of oil went up.....well....needed to make budget cuts.

I just started using full synthetic, I still plan on changing every 3k. Ive seen what lack of oil changes due to even newer model cars, Its not pretty. especially since, most new cars have some form of oil pressure controlled camshaft advance. lack of oil changes really takes its toll on even new cars. but hey, that's more money in my pocket

Mine was like that too when i bought. The previous owner (college chick) never changed any of the fluids for who knows how long. The oil was black as black can be and almost like water. Tranny fluid was brown, diffs/tcase were black. I did 3 oil changes in a month's time just to make sure it was clean in there. I also used engine restore once during that process. It runs fine but is leaking at the valve cover, doesn't surprise me. At least the leaking oil keeps my skid plate rust free.
