i was just looking at my engine and i noticed my distributer cap has 7 wires. Why?

one for each plug and one from the coil..

Like Fords... they have external ignition Coils, where if you are familiar with Chevys the ignition coil is under the distributor cap (HEI)..

How did you think the plugs get that spark? They need to transmit it from the coil through the distributor to the plgs. This requires 1 wire for each plug and one from the coil to get the coil's spark "distributed" to each plug for each cylinder.

No need to get testy i just thought the coil was in there

wicked i had an 84 nissan with the z24 engine and it was that way 2 coils and 8 plug wire. expensive set up but that little truck was one of the better i have ever had.

some rangers and their mazda counterparts had 2 plugs per cylinder
