Default Question...

Ok for all you folks who bought the Cragar Soft 8's... How much weight did they have to use to balance them? My new ones are no where near round and would take around 5 or more ounces of weight just to balance em..

No such problems with mine. All 5 were less than an ounce out and I attributed that to the tires.

I had two sets, both had some out of rounders. It's such a headache and waste of money when you get an out of round wheel because most stores say you cannot return a wheel that has been mounted. By the time you find out that it is out of round, you've already spent a bunch of money trying to balancing the tires a couple times and if they do accept an exchange, you have to pay to get them unmounted and then the new ones remounted. PITA. There is that chance you can get a written statement from a reputable tire shop stating they are out of round and they may exchange them or give you store credit for another set.

I was able to get mine exhanged by getting a written statement and went with pro-comps steelies this time. All wheels are perfect now. No more cragers for me.

What tires you running?

I learned long ago before ever mounting a wheel you always have em toss it on the balance machine to check the initial wheel balance and you can always tell how bad it is..Mine the inner lip on the back part was what was bad..Anyways called summit they emailed me 4 shipping labels to put on the boxes and I am shipping them back and we decided to try another set to see if those are bad then they said they would return my money and if that happens I'll just go with some procomps or something..

Good deal. Sorry you have to pospone the wheels and tires another week, but if they send you a good set you will be much happier.

Yeah but half dozen weights per wheel is just too much.

Oh yeah I know you will never find a steel wheel that's perfectly round but these were so badly out of round like I said would have taken 5 ounces or more just to get em balanced in a manageable range..
