Default question

i wanna paint my rims black but i want it to look good. Is there a special type of paint i can buy that will stay on and not come off. It needs to be able to withstand mud and dirt. If it is not worth it to do it my self then i can get it professionally done but i just don't want to spend that much. A friend told me i could buy a special type of paint to do it your self but idk if thats true.

Another alternative i was thinking was just buying new rims that are already black. I know that 15in rims dont cost too much but i still wana save money.

I have a sport cherokee so the fenders, grill, and bumbers are black but they are faded and scrached. Does anyone know if its ok to paint them too?

X2^ the prep work is the most important part of any paint job make sure the surface is nice and clean no rust or scrapes sand smooth then prime at least 2 coats then at least 3 coats of color and if you would like clear coat it use a quality primer and paint duplicolor makes some decent paint and is very easy to apply in the spray cans

This exact question was asked no more than 2 days ago. Try looking through the last couple days worth of posts to find more detailed info.

I did mine and have a link to it on the other thread. It is pretty easy to do.

go to the hardware store and buy the little topper that turns the spray can into a poor mans paint gun. Costs under $4 and is the best "cheap" paint investment that you can make.

Another alternative would be Epoxy base Appliance spray paint. I painted a set of metal medicine cabinets that were 30 years old with pealing paint and rusted metal. I cleaned the surfaces, sanded and primed. The appliance paint worked like rustoleum. The surface became smooth and produced a hard and glossy finish when dried. With the new introduction of Black kitchen appliances, there should be Black Epoxy based spray paint in your local hardware store. (Loews, Home Depot, etc,) Could be a lot cheaper than having them professionally done. Working in a tire store, I have seen rims with a new professional paint job and you could scratch the clear coat just putting on the tires. Also- If you paint your own rims, remove the tires before painting. I have seen tires painted along with the rims.
