I had contemplated something like that... then laughed at my self... now seeing someone thats done it... hmmm
It might not bee to bad if there was a way to have it not look like pvc
On the other hand I doubt it would hold up to weather.

You can get a surco rack for 200 just the basket then drill and bolt it to your stock crossbars. It wont hold a lot of weight but enough rain gutter mounts are much better however on a budget the bolting is where its at.

I personally wouldn't go that route. May not hold up if you have to use to use racheting straps one day to secure something. also looks really high. Make it out of emt conduit. i made mine for 60 bucks minus paint. look at my pictures and you will see the album for it. Check out these threads https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f58/ho...of-rack-21684/

LOL that dude really has a tire in it. I would not want to be behind him on the highway. He probley has it straped with Zip ties. I'm #1 in saving money but you gotta think of your safety and everyone else on the road.

Sunlight will break down the PVC fairly rapidly. It'd be nice looking and pretty strong, but only for a little while. Just do it with metal pipe instead.
