Default Pulling 2100 Pound Trailer

This one is a bit heavier than anticipated.

Can I pull a 2100 # pop up tent trailer with a stock 1999 cherokee sport?

Modifications required?

Safety issues.

Please advise because I might buy today !!

TNX !!!

To be safe it needs brakes.

I towed a trailer that weighs 900 pounds with a 400 pound ramp on top and a 250 pound dirt bike beside it. Was also 2 10 pound castors and 30 pounds of used oil...
I have an 86 Cherokee with 2.5 and 2 inch lift. Had no issue pulling it at 65 or stopping it and my brakes are carp. I have a stock bumper hitch on it and it did fine. I think a tent trailer
would be fine just don't load up the jeep with too much

@rcolman Have you ever towed before? What kind of roads will you be driving on (any steep grades?)? If you know what you are doing and your Jeep has a receiver and tow wiring installed you will have no problem with 2100#. Just remember to brake earlier and take right hand turns a little wider. If you notice the Jeep shifting up and down constantly shift your transmission into 3rd until it can stay in 4th without issue again. Curiosity getting the better of me, how long is the pop up? And it's only a single axle right? If towing on relatively flat roads you will be fine with no trailer brakes and no auxiliary transmission cooler.

@shaky nothing fishy about pulling and stopping a 1600# trailer, the crap brakes on the other hand...

I towed a Cherokee with my Cherokee on a steel trailer with trailer brakes on the neck...wasn't fun, wasn't easy, and had to drive 40mph over 200 miles...but it didn't do bad

How do I insert pictures into this post? Don't have any option on the phone..

I was on freshly chip sealed highway I drove 55 miles on it and you just gotta start slowing sooner. My mileage was cut down to 9 from 19 but didn't have any issues stopping or,going.

I recently towed a Cherokee with mine as well. It was on a towdolly though. Going down the highway wasn't too bad even grades were easily doable. Not super steep ones mind you, but I did have to shift from 5th to 4th a few times. The 3.55 swap was all I did. Stopping required lots of planning. Fuel economy wasn't that bad at around 16-17. I was thoroughly impressed. Biggest thing I would say is that you need to make sure your springs are up for the occasion and all your brakes are recently serviced.

The obvious reason aside, trailer brakes are also the only reliable way to straighten out a trailer that's started swaying before it breaks your rear end loose.

Surge brakes at the absolute bare minimum.
