Anyways, back at the OP. At least do your friend a favor and make SURE the shop isn't screwing you over. I've seen shops do an "engine swap" because the engine had a bad water pump.
Make them show you/her/him exactly what was wrong with the Jeep. Also, go look at the new engine before it's installed and go look again when the old engine is out.
Verify that an engine actually gets swapped in.

I would also recommend that as she is getting a different engine, that the replacement engine does NOT have an 00-01 factory 0331 cylinder head on it. That head has a casting defect between cylinders 3-4 which make it suspect for cracking at that spot.
The only 0331 heads that do not have this defect are TUPY heads, which were found on 2003 and newer Grand Cherokee and Wrangler 4.0 engines. Those heads are redesigned and are fine.
Your buddy's girlfriend would likely "flip out" if she gets a new engine and then 6 months later has to deal with a cracked head.......!!

Please post the final amount she pays for the cost of the replacement engine and the labor. I am very curious.
Actually, depending on the car, changing taillights is not as easy as you think. That is why 90% of the population can't do it, and why mechanics can charge $150 for 5 mins. of work. You do that math!
Is there an engine swap write-up somewhere, or is that just something people are born knowing how to do?

I kinda gotta agree on that. Especially with headlights. My dad's 04 stratus, holy hell. Changing the damn bulb took close to an hour. Screw curvy body lines, I like my box on wheels.
