There is a knock sensor test I haven't tried. You simply tap on the block near the knock sensor with a screwdriver or something and listen for a change in the engine as it retards the spark. I get you changed it, but a wire or connection might be an issue. I have some re-bar handy, maybe I'll try that.

If I saw black out the pipe during the water deal I might take that as a sign there was excessive carbon buildup.

Anyway I added the above to my Cat Temp thread> https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/tem...2/#post2834710

MY TURN! I read the thread & thought...why not add my 2 cents & try n get help before I register the bunny in Camp Verde!

right after I bought it . 1987 Cherokee XJ (above, failed emissions picture)

changed spark plugs, dist cap, rotor, oil, coolant flush, block flush, radiator hoses, & thermostat replaced. Oh, & added sea foam & filled with premium gas (tank filled on my way to emissions, I know...oops) (above, failed emissions picture)

cleaned the air intake thingy with a vacuum hose sucking some stuff from a can (friend has a better clue mechanically than I) that caused white smoke...stalled the jeep out. Sprayed some cleaner in the air intake, added 1 bottle of rubbing alcohol (which I NOW know didnt help NOX since it makes the engine burn hot ANYWAY) ran for an hour & off to emissions again. (above, failed emissions picture)

under hood view, cause its bad enough I am a moron...but there is after market shyt I just dont know what it does, no clue what all is missing & well, I am a computer geek...with a wrench I am useless.

plugged where some vacuum line should be

I learned is the EGR solinoid & know SOMETHING should be there....

not only is there no vacuum line on THAT EGR, but there is another piece (saw it in a picture) that comes WITH an EGR if I replace it.

so this is the after market air intake system. I seen pictures where that plug on the right isnt capped but plugged into where the red sponge ball is sitting. (again, no clue if that is part of my issue)

& lastly, a front view under the hood.

Ok, so the Bunny cost me $1,000. (cause it RAN & it was night when I got there) sent it to the shop for the laundry list of to do's. While getting the list, got collant & engine flushed, full brake job, wire chase. (Learning NOW...to buy tools & figure it out! $1500 later of course & the rest of the to dos they wanted $2600!) I posted a thread ... but go no traction for asking for opinions & advice...so thought I would tag along since this is my current issue.

Missing parts on emissions & what hose goes where is my current situation. Sadly, Im on my 2nd 3 day reg to get it through emissions...but it expires Thursday...so I am HOPING for a fast reply for things I can try (& hope if I need to buy more than hoses ... parts are available) to get it done before close of business Thurs.

HELLLLLPPPPP plz =D

Sorry it didnt just put pics in...thought I did it right...

so I DONT have to get missing vacuum components? I skimmed through the list & doing my best in understanding it. Remember, I am totally unfamiliar under the hood but trying. I really thought that vacuum line from the EGR would be a good place to start.

Air IN at a rear PVC valve? Two lines off the front of the VC? All those vacuum lines to the TB?

ok, so I was up & out EARLY. right after my last post. pics can be seen in my lil album

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member.../albums/bunny/

since I have an after market K&N intake, it was throwing me. I seen a pic in this forum with one as well & did my best guess to mimic it. Now, the EGR on the manifold only has 1 hose place...the one that oriellys had came with a transducer...So I have no transducer. & thanks to your pic above, I see I dont have a line coming out of the purge either. bottom line, I didnt go for emissions. Since its going to AMC for a 3in lift Mon anyway...they are going to have someone look at it for me. Sorry to take your time fellas, but thank you for your input.
