I didnt really pay attention when I bought them, but I think we determined before that they arent whats preferred. They were copper plugs that came in an orange box.

Don't recognize that description. I just get NGKs and never look back.

Man, this is frustrating, how far is it from Phenex to Prescott anyway? Doubting it's the plugs...IDK? Pete, should we just tell him to install a new 02 and cat? 258K......(and gotta be up to temp with a good t-stat)

And One Deer, do you need to smog once, or more often?

Phoenix to prescott is about 80 miles. Don't think it's the plugs either. I'm thinking o2, maybe temp sensor, and possibly cat. We emissions test every 2 years.

Ok ok ok. So saturday did the coolant temp sensor, o2 sensor, and tstat. While I was under doing the coolant temp sensor I noticed something I had forgotten about...this odd looking sensor with two flat pins I guess you could call them at the bottom driver's side of the block just above the oil pan. I had placed the plug on when I first bought it since I didnt know what it was. The next day was when I nearly passed emissions besides the pressure test and .02 over on NOx. It was unllugged again saturday. Figured out it was the knock sensor, kicked myself in the butt for forgetting, then picked one up from AMC 4x4 (local jeep junkyard) when I was there buying the missing fan shroud. Thats on now and I think if I have time I will run through emissions on my lunch break today.

No knock sensor could for sure cause high NOx. Low temp could for sure cause high HC"s. Fingers crossed.

Thats the thing, the gauge is still showing at about 150 consistently. Im beginning to wonder if that isnt just the gauge itself though now.

A friend loaned me one of those little IR temp guns. Sort of fun, been beaning everything. My T-stat housing is around 195* where is should be. Both my Cat, and the pipe to it are 450 (ish)* Don't think that's right, the CAT should be hotter. I mean to un-plug a plug and see if feeding it HC's makes it heat up. (Work).

It could well be your gauge or sender. I wonder if a parts store would loan you one of those temp deals. It needs to be up to temp to pass.

Almost passed. Everything was good but NOx. My old man has a temp gun im gonna borrow. Actually asked him last night. I just gotta make the trek to him to grab it. Would the cat affect NOx our would that be coolant temp? I'm so dang close now at least.

Back to post #8! NOx forms at extremely high temperature and pressure. I don't know it a CAT could burn it or not. Maybe!

Here's some CAT experience. Engine running (shimmed at) 2500 is rpm, pipe 350 ish, Cat in the 400's. Then with one plug unplugged some spots at the rear of the cat hit 900*. Pipe stayed the same. So is is not dead, but I question if that is "good", ether. So there's that. I tried a thread on the subject with no love, likewise didn't find any Google there.
