1998 Cherokee XJ Sport, i6, 4.0, 4wd, 4 door.


Power windows woes in this order;


Drivers side front;Does not work at all.

Passenger side front; Works only when drivers door is closed.
Drivers side rear; Works only when drivers door is closed.
Passenger side rear; Works only when drivers door is
20% open.


I have replaced the control panel on the drivers door, due to an issue of all windows not working before. I was going to replace the drivers door motor but all replacement motors, have the wrong gear set up. Do I need to replace the whole power window assembly? Has anyone had a problem with pinched or bound wires near the hinges? If so how do I repair that? (I haven't seen any pinched, but I have a feeling).

~90 degrees in Ohio, very few windows working, and no A/C.

 

Check the wiring in the rubber boot between the door and the body. The wires breaking is a common problem. Take the door panel off and push the boot thru the door, dont cut it open. Its a tight squeeze, but doable.

 

Definitely the door wiring. Pull it apart, cut + solder the wires, and make sure you heat shrink the wires
