I have searched everywhere in this forum to try to avoid a double post for the past few months. I have found similar issues, but not like mine. Hopefully posting my problem helps get this one fixed properly.

My power windows are acting like this...

Drivers side works, but dies.. it has to "charge up" for lack of a better word. It will go back up after a few minutes of waiting

Passenger works from the drivers switch but not from the passenger switch, but sometimes it is very slow

Rear Passenger is completely inoperable

Rear Driver works perfectly from both switches

I have read about the safety switch being the issue, and people jumjping that. But nobody that I have read about has had the issue I am having with the drivers window. Why would it just die and then work again as if to lose power and need to kind of "re-charge" I guess. If there was a short I would think that it would either work or not. I have noticed water gets in between the door frame, and I can only assume that this has something to to do with my issue as I have been told by some that this is a common problem area for water with this jeep.

I am hoping to find out some sort of answer or way to test the system before i start replacing stuff I do not need to replace. Any help is appreciated. Happy Easter ALL!!!

I have not taken apart or replaced anything so far. I bought the jeep in November and it had the issue before I bought it. Everything inside is stock as well.

 

I dont have your answer but as the pro's have yet to pipe up, thought I would throw in 2 cents. I have 2001 xj. my window goes down fine but goes up slow, it never dies. doesn't seem 100% so i think something is going on. i think if mine got worse it might be like the problem your describing. I can see what you mean from how mine acts.

I did take my door apart though to replace the factory speakers. those little tabs will break for sure, but you can buy replacements. i got some at advance auto. make sure they match the length of your old ones. mine were a little long and now the window hits it when at the very bottom. not a big problem. might have to try a new window motor.

It does sound like a motor issue, but I didn't know if the motor would cause all the other problems.. or Maybe I have 2 problems!! LOL

I would trace the connections to see if you have any worn, loose, or nearly broken ones. And as always, check the grounds. Bad grounds will make motors act like a squirrel.

 

Thanks i will try that... Now that I think about it, my drivers side front speaker is out as well. Maybe this water was just wreaking havoc on all the electronic connections in there.

Both passenger windows on my jeep are in-op by any switch and both front speakers. Haven't had the time to fudge with it but when I do I'll post my findings...

 

Have you noticed water in the door jam when you open the door after a rain or a car wash??

 

The speaker wire gets cut by the door you have to run new speaker wire.

 

check your connection at the driver side kick plate ... there are 3 connections down there make sure they are dry and put die electric greese on them when you reconnect
if that dont seem to be the prob check all connections at fuse block on passanger side

Yes I do. Drivers side floor gets a little wet also. Noticed the passenger side wet one time too

 

Pardon my stupidity... but are you referring to the ones inside the car by the gas/brake pedals behind the hood latch?? or are there ones inside the door??

 

Yes he's taking about the three in the kick panel. You are correct.
