power steering stiff

Hello, in my 99 my power steering is much stiffer than my friends 95... Any way to loosten it up?

The fluid is great, even the dealer changed it a couple months ago when it was there for service

Tell us a little more about each rig...

Either have a lift or larger tires? Any play in any steering component, particularly around the steering box?

Power steering pump ever been replaced on either?

Everything is stock, jeep xj 99, steering is tight and responsivre, just more tough then it should be. 242 trans case, 4.0l motor

My steering is hard also until I rev the motor a bit. I was told after flushing it that I would need a new pump.

Sounds like a pump issue,or maybe a relief valve not shuttling properly? You can try and flush it,I have had luck doing that, then adding something like the Lucas power steering stop leak, it helped a bit.

Or maybe someone had over adjusted the worm gear on the box,rare and dangerous. You could check by jacking up, put on stands, engine off, and cycle the steering lock to lock...feel for any right spots.
