Power steering noise
So today I picked up a used steering box and swapped it for the one I had that was leaking all over.
After install the steering is very tight not sloppy like my old one also harder to turn the wheel.
The ps pump is making all kinds of noise now. It's moving plenty of fluid.
Is it possible this ps box is causing the pump issues?

did you flush it before reconnecting the lines? You get even a little dirt in there and you're pulling it back off.
Is it possible? if you knew the track record with steering gear boxes.. the answer is a big fat yes. The so called "rebuilds" are half the time never actually rebuilt correctly.
Ask me how I know.

Thanks I don't have any experience with these
I picked the nicest looking one in the pile at a jeep used parts place but I guess I have no idea of it's condition.
It doesnt leak or have any play like my old one I can say that much.
I did not flush it there was fluid in it already from the donor jeep I topped off with a little more and installed. What does the flushing procedure involve rocketmouse?

Well I did a lot more bleeding this time with the jeep OFF. It seems to have done the trick.
This is going to take some serious getting used to. She drives straight down the road, bumps do nothing to the wheel. What I had before was more like riding a horse it was great.
On the plus side I think I've cured my occasional wheel shimmy

Yeah what was said, if it's not leaking and it steers, drive it until it breaks or you figure out what to do with it. Lots of times parts that have sat around will calm down after a few hundred miles.
