Default Pouring Out Coolant After Long Ride

Went on a little kayaking trip and as I was walking I the house I noticed I had coolant pouring on the ground. Is it from the overflow tube? It expelled about all of my coolant. Cap loose?

If loose I figure it would leak around it. Could be a bad cap. Not that newer ones can't go bad but how old is the cap?

No idea how old. I've only had it a few months.

If you can swing it get a MOPAR cap. If not at least get a new one. No signs of overheating while driving?

No overheating. Anything else it could be besides the radiator cap?

Only way that much coolant gets to the reservoir is if the cap isn't sealing to hold pressure. In our case 16lbs of it.

Well boys I filled it up with water this morning and went to work. I'll see the damage and stop by AutoZone this afternoon and get a new one. I'll document on here to see it if is resolved. Thanks!

On this radiator cap issue, is it 16 psi or 14 psi or ....
Stores have different ratings in their books
Are all 4.0L Cherokee's same pressure rating?
Mine in particular is 1994

My understanding is that the open system like the OP's takes a 16psi cap whereas the closed system XJ's take a 13psi cap.

I had the same exact issue on my 99, for me it was the fan clutch, which I replaced and problem solved.
My symptoms was a after a long drive on a hot day and turning off the jeep coolant would come out of the overflow. Fan clutch replacement resolved the issue.

Stick with a Mopar radiator cap, or a Stant 10231, which is a standard vent 16lb. Ive used Stant for years without issue. But i avoid those with the safety lever like the plague.

Great info. If buying a new cap doesn't solve, this very well could be the solution.

Yesterday morning I took off the radiator cap and tightened it back on. So far no leaks out of the overflow. However, no long rides over 10-15 minutes either.

If the cap seemed to be too easy going on you can bend the ears a bit for a tighter fit. But then a new one would be best if you don't know the age of the one on it.
