without tearing everything apart how can I tell what size brake drum I have. Apparently it's multiple choice between 9" or 10 inch"?
I have a 93 cherokee sport

So I took the drums off, my wheel cylinder isn't leaking. The drum looks good, not cracked, chipped, or grooves wire into it. Found out I has 9" drums. My pads are really thin, maybe 1/16 th left. And the adjuster is siezed up. So here is the question, between bad shoes and stuck adjuster could this be my problem? Cause I can apply my brakes and the shoes are not even hitting the drum.

Easy way to tell the difference between the 9" and 10" is the 10" has cooling fins, the 9" is smooth.

I would change the wheel cylinders while you are in there. They are about 20 yrs. old, better safe than sorry. I would also get a new spring kit and a complete hardware kit too.

Well that can cause some of your issues. Under what circumstances were your brakes spongy?

I can drive a while and apply the breaks and the pedal is hard a little later I can apply them the pedal will go to soft. When it goes to soft it feels like the front brakes are doing all the work. And drive a little longer they will go back to hard. It's what ever it wants to do. I pulled the drum off and sprayed break way on the adjuster and the bleeding nipple cause I got some work ahead of me tomorrow or Saturday.
