Default Posi lock Fork

The fork on my posi lock cable broke in half. I took out the entire fork and put the cover and cable all back on the axle. Is it ok to drive without anything connected to the slider gear that locks both the axles together? Its free to slide around in there.

You can temporarily use a hose clamp to keep the gear off to the side.

There is a HD fork available.. about $50 iirc. I was going to install it in my son's YJ.. but it hasnt been needed thus far.

So just push the slider all the way to the right and put the clamp over the shaft itself?

would it be unwise to slider the collar into the locked position and then put the clamp on the side of it so it keeps both of the axles locked all the time?

i have an aussie locker upfront i dont know how it would affect onroad driving in 2wd

Yeah, i dont think you want to do that.

Anyone else more informed on a CAD axle and locking it in this manner?

i would think it would be just like running a solid axle. I dont see there being any stress pushing on the clamp from the slider. I plan on upgrading to solid shafts but thats in a month or so. i dont plan on doing any hard wheeling either

yes, you can slide the collar over to the locked position and tighten the hose clamp against it so it won't slide back over. i've done this for a few years.

but, you don't want to do this if you've got a locker. it'll be fine in 2wd, but on the trail, it will be permanently locked and you won't be able to steer sharp. i've done this too.
best if you have a locker, to get a posi cable installed. this way you can unlock it and be semi-open to be able to steer.
also, i've broke many shafts and u-joints while locked this way. but weirdly enough, it's always been while trying to reverse.

if you're open, go for it.

I think he already has the posi-lock. Some tend to break the forks by pulling to hard on the cable instead of slightly rolling and allowing it to slip in with less pressure. Not saying thats what he did..

That was what i was wondering... with a front lunchbox locker. But being from FL with sand/mud he might find it user friendly when compared to rocks/packed dirt.

Alright thanks for the help guys.

i made it so both axle were locked together and then put the hose clamp on. I plan on putting in solid shafts soon so it wont need to stay like that for long.

I do have the posi lock cable but i just took it all off to sell.
