Popping door lock fuses?
Tonight I kept popping 20A fuses for my power door locks. When I hit the lock button it works fine, but when I hit the unlock button it blows right away and I have to throw a new one in there. I was just gonna start tearing into ****, but I just wondered if its happened to anyone else.

Not me. Have you got a wireing diagram to aid in finding the short? If not you need to aquire one before digging in to it. They have them on PBB I think.

Start by checking continuity to ground at the lock switch. COuld be a bad actuator or a simple pinch in a wire somewhere.

The first place I would look is the wire bundle going from the door to the body. Wires get fragile from the constant bending that happens when the door opens or closes.

I looked at the owner's manual from my 99 XJ and the power door locks call for a 25 amp fuse. According to these schematics it calls for a 30 amp. It's possible the fuse you are using is the wrong size.

Wow, that could be the problem I guess. I might give that a try, stick a 25 or 30 amp in it. If that doesn't do it then I'll start with the wiring.

Schematics look like they have a curcuit breaker instead of a fuse on mine. Did that change over the years.

Hey, did you ever resolve this issue? I have the exact same problem with my 97. So far I have tested all the lock actuators, and door switches, and tested for continuity, but nothing. I was hoping you could help shed some light on this for me? Please PM if so..
Cheers,

Hey Tanderson, I found my problem, turned out to be a faulty power lock switch in the driver side door. I spent some time reviewing the FSM, and it takes you through a series of tests you can perform with an ohm meter to determine where your problem is. My jeep is a 97, so my service manual is different than yours as far as wiring and switches goes, but if you can get a hold of one for your year, you will probably find your problem in about an hour.
FYI, in my research, 90% of the time this issue is caused by one of the power lock switch moduals in the doors. The circuitry for the power locks is actually in the passenger side, so it could be either one. They are only about $45 at the wreckers to replace as they are non repairable once they go. Hope this helps,
Cheers!
