Default Plz Help: How do you remove the center dashboard?

My fog light switch is not working. My rear windshield washer switch wont light up (but works) and my rear defroster switch will not stay on.

This sounds weak but i cannot figure out how to remove the wood grain to get started.

Please help.

(98 cherokee limited with wood grain center console)

Thanks!

Youre talking about the cover piece that covers radio, heater controls and the switches right? Just pull on it, it snaps in and out

I find it is easier to start at the bottom, removing the vent section last.

The rear windshield washer switch and the defroster lights won't illuminate for me, either! I have a 2000 cherokee and it'll flicker sometimes or it just won't come on at all or one will come on but not the other. That could be a common problem with all cherokees :P

I found new switches on rockauto.com

Going to see if napa or autozone has in stock before I order so I can fix tomorrow.

I'd also recommend shifting to 1st or something to get the lever out of the way.

At the bottom corners of that dash piece, you can get your fingers under it and pull. don't pull too hard though.

x2 on taking the steering column cover off - that makes it tons easier! The big bezel piece just pulls out. When my switch lights went out, all I had to do was replace the bulbs. I put green leds in there and they work fine all the time now. they're little twist-out bulb sockets on the back of the factory switch panels, easy to see when you get it all apart! (mine even had an extra bulb socket and wire with nowhere to be attached behind one of the switch panels!)

also, the defroster could just be a bad relay/fuse and not the switch, have you looked into that?
