Default 98 motor in 95, where to mount temp sending unit?

ok i bought my 95 jeep with a non working temp gauge. the PO told me it had a 98 motor swapped in by the PO. it had no documentation so i assumed it was BS. well i later saw the stamp on the head 0630 so it indeed does have a 96-98 head at least. well there is no place to screw in the temp sending unit to have a working gauge on that head and we searched all over that head before we realized it was a non 95. where do i put the temp sending unit at to have a working gauge? can i mount it on the T-stat housing on that flat part near the other temp sensor?

The sensor in the water neck provides temp data to the PCM only. Your sending unit can be installed in the correct location on the head by simply drilling a tapping the head.

Apply a liberal amount of RTV to the tap to catch and hold any metal that isn't pushed out when you tap the hole.

Very easy, just take your time.

You can use the late model thermostat housing with your sender in it. Just extend the wire.
