Default Plz help cherokee trouble!!!

i have a fully stock 1996 cherokee, i love my truck and i dont to lose it,
for for the last couple of weeks my check engine light has been on, and but it ran good most of the time, but randomly sometimes while driving it starts to run real slugish, my speed will start droppin and when i try to push the gas it feels like nothing is there, feels like its not catching, sometimes it would be like that for about a min and it goes back to normal, other times i have to stop, turn it off, let sit for a second, and then when i turn it back on its back to to normal

yesterday i got my computer reader out, and it say my o2 sensor is gone bad, i took it out, cleaned it, and but it back in, the following day i was driving and it did its thing again but this time it remained running slugish, it all ways starts up just fine

replacing the o2 sensor in the next couple days, hoping its gonna fix the problem...

plz help me and post ur thoughts about this problem i am having

thanks guys

I would replace it. Sounds like it is your problem I would also take the time to run some seafoam through your throttle body and clean out your CVC sytems.
It will also help your oxygen problem... hope this helps.

Also, a bad CAT or CPS can give similar symptoms, FWIW.

I was thinking a CAT also. How many miles do you have on it? I just picked up a new cat for my 89 from a local muffler shop for 43 bucks

Could be the cat, but I'd guess O2 sensor first. Cleaning them won't usually solve anything, they just need replaced. Put the new one on and see if it doesn't take care of your problem, then start looking elsewhere.

I am not sure about 96, but 97 also has a fuse in the engine compartment for the O2 sensor relay. Make sure the fuse is good. It will give you an O2 code and cause those same problems. Your sensor can still be bad but if the fuse is blown it will still act the same way

Is it true there are actually 2 oxygen sensors? I had the same reading and replaced the one in the engine compartment, but I guess there's a second one along the exhaust...my check engine light came back on (intermittently) and it's the same problem. So maybe it's your second one which I heard is a real to replace yourself...

ps: I think it's why i went from 22mpg highway to 17mpg recently....
