Hey all - so the rear (differential) end of my driveshaft just let go at highway speeds - very exciting. I figure if I can just remove the driveshaft I can put it in 4w high and at least get home.
Totally disconnected from the back, and I believe I read that it should just pull straight out of the transfer case, but no luck so far - sledgehammer should be here in a few. Any chance I need to remove this thing that's bolted to the differential as well??
GOT IT OUT - took about 20 minutes with a hand sledge but finally!! She's running like a dream in "4wd." I truly do love this thing.
Don't drive it like that for too long. When it starts to sound like there's a machine gunner under your car when you accelerate, it means all the stress from driving in FWD has stretched out the TC front drive chain. Your range at that point until zero hookup or catastrophic failure is <35mi. Ask me how I know.
Just be happy your driveshaft stayed with the vehicle, mine was ejected out the rear going 70, never saw it again...
Got it home, about 20 miles!! Started making a little weird "click" but I think I have other tranny troubles - going to start a new thread about that, and yet another new one about this little driveshaft issue!!
