front driveshaft removal for mpgs?
Going on a longish road trip with gas stations few and far apart. I know it isn't hard to remove the front driveshaft and i will need it when i get there for 4wd. So I was wondering if removing it for the drive down and back would help with mpgs since it wouldn't be providing any resistance to the front diffs? Thanks.

It might shave a few pennies off your trip in fuel. not worth it IMO tho. you still have the axles shaft and diff turning so you're not stopping much from turning.
how far you driving? driving into the wind vs with it would probably have more affect

about 450 miles deep into baja. I estimate around 900 miles of onroad(roundtrip) and 100 miles offroad. With camp supplies weighing me down, I want to get as much mpgs per tank as possible. I wasn't sure how much of an effect the driveshaft had but thought I would ask anyways. Thanks.

Driver habits on the skinny pedal will make the biggest difference, assuming a properly maintained engine.
Tire pressure and alignment come next.
All the rest of the tricks and tips are waaay behind those things in effectiveness.

Taking some milk of magnesia every day would yield the same results and be healthier in the long run.

Here's why:
The XJs with SelecTrac got exactly the same mileage as those with CommandTrac.
Selectrac had the drive shaft turning in 2WD and the CommandTrac did not.......

Ummm, I assume you are talking about the FRONT drive shaft turning in 2WD? My DD has the selectrac (NP242) transfer case and the front drive shaft does NOT turn in 2wd.
