Check your battery voltage and wiring and grounds. Also cycle the gears don't just go to neutral go down the 12 then back to neutral sometimes it takes once or twice. Also pushing forward on the shifter when it's in park can help the NSS

Two links with the "how-to" of refurbishing the neutral safety switch.

I did mine today. wasnt too bad. hardest part was getting it off the lever shaft. use lots of penetrating oil before you do it. I actually had to scrub mine with steel wool to get all the corrosion off so it would slide off. Even with that headache I was done in 2 hours. All you need to know is in this link http://bc4x4.com/tech/2010/jeep-neut...ty-switch-nss/
good luck.

I'd say check the battery voltage, or maybe swap out the starter

How do you KNOW it's not the battery? To me it sounds like your battery died or your alternator took a crap. However we still need more info. What did it do when you tried to start it? You said it did not crank but did it click? Did it do nothing at all? Do any of your lights work or your radio?

My 91 XJ just started doing the same thing yours is. Turn the key and nothing. I figured I would treat it like a Chevy and smack the side of the starter a couple of times. Guess what, It started right up. It's done this three time now. I will be replacing the starter this weekend!
